Freshers Roadmap: From Learning to First Job
A structured timeline removes a lot of the paralysis freshers feel about where to even start -- here's a realistic path, adjustable to your own pace.
Months 1-2: Fundamentals
- Pick one language and build genuine fluency in it -- syntax, control flow, OOP basics, common standard-library usage
- Start DSA in parallel, focusing on arrays, strings, and basic sorting/searching -- don't wait until "after" the language is fully learned
Months 3-4: One Framework and Your First Real Project
- Learn one framework matching your target role (e.g., Spring Boot for Java backend, React for frontend)
- Start building one complete project -- not a tutorial clone, something with at least one feature you designed yourself
- Learn Git properly and push your work regularly, not just at the end
Months 5-6: Deepen DSA, Finish and Deploy the Project
- Move into intermediate DSA topics -- trees, graphs, hashmaps, recursion, dynamic programming basics
- Finish your project fully, including a real database and basic error handling, and deploy it somewhere live
- Write a genuinely clear README and prepare to explain the project's design decisions out loud
Months 6+: Apply, Interview, Iterate
- Start applying broadly while continuing to practice DSA consistently, not stopping once applications go out
- Track every application and treat early rejections as calibration, not failure -- adjust your resume/prep based on where you're actually getting stuck
- Do mock interviews (with peers, mentors, or structured practice tools) before high-stakes real interviews
